Are They French Onions Or Is It French Soup?

Stopped at the casino and lost lots of money, but enjoyed this tasty soup for lunch. The crispy onions on top really made the meal. Was it wrong to peel the melted cheese off the outside of the bowl afterwards? Too late to ask now, I guess.
